Newsletter – Spring 2025 Edition

Welcome to spring – the season of safety seminars, festival beginnings, and fresh adventures aloft!

Wow, what an amazing kick-off to the season it’s been! Here’s a look at everything that’s been happening in our world of hot air ballooning. — Southeastern Balloon Safety Seminar

The Safety Seminar was packed with   informative sessions and great speakers. While the weather kept balloons grounded, it gave us all a chance to unwind with front porch hangouts and some impromptu karaoke. Who knew we had so much hidden talent in our group

Dublin Balloon Festival

This event was a blast! We played with Laska, spent time with the Maverick Division, and kicked around new ideas for the year ahead. A big shout out to Lauren for her fantastic work assisting Balloonmeister Mark. It was a perfect reminder of why we love what we do.

Annuals at the Ranch

A big thank you to everyone who came out to help! With all hands on deck, the annual inspections went smoothly—and were even fun. Special thanks to Dave Sullivan for spending the day with us. We’ll see you again for Round 2 in June!

New Balloon, Solo Flights & Crew Highlights

The Edgerton Family picked up their stunning new Kubicek from the Ranch and took it out for a flawless maiden flight. Hunter completed his solo, Josh Cato tested out his cape (yes, really), Amy handled the flying, Lauren followed in support, and Rob led the team. Smooth landings all around—and plenty of time for post-flight photos!

Welcome Rob S. – Our New Student!

Rob S. has joined us at the Ranch! With a background in planes and helicopters, he’s now working toward his LTA rating to share the skies with his kids. Spring weather caused a few delays, but we’re back on track and working with his schedule.

Sun ‘n Fun – Lakeland, FL

This year was a new experience—we were adopted by the amazing crew at Paradise City! Despite dirt storms and morning fog preventing flying, the week was packed with hands-on learning, burner training, and balloon displays. Saturday’s row of baskets featured a live Q&A with Paul Czarnecki and Jeff Thompson. Paradise City welcomed us with open arms, and we’re already excited for next year!

Smokin’ on Blackshear – BBQ & Balloon Festival

While the winds limited our flights, this new addition to the BBQ fest was a hit! From the walk-through balloon and candlesticks to the Ring of Fire and night glow, the public loved every moment. The Chamber, sponsors, and crowd were thrilled—we’re already planning how to make next year even better.

Kentucky Derby Balloon Festival

Challenging weather struck again with rain and wind, but we made the most of it. Educational outreach and media interviews filled the gaps, and we managed a final Saturday night flight and a beautiful Friday night glow. Sunday morning brought perfect weather for a scenic flight at the Ranch with our Central Georgia guests, celebrating a special birthday.

Ranch Updates

We’ve started spring cleanup around the pecan trees for a strong harvest. We’re also working with a local beekeeper to relocate a wild hive—fresh Ranch honey is on the horizon! The grass is growing fast, the mowers are humming, and Tom is keeping Napa in business with all the maintenance. Things are looking great around here!

Looking Ahead

Coming Up in May & June

Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival One of our absolute favorite beach side events is just around the corner! Pack your sunscreen, shades, and beach chairs—it’s going to be a beautiful few days of flying, fun, and coastal vibes. Maverick Summer Kickoff @ Aviation Ranch – June

Mark your calendars! Aviation Ranch will host the Maverick Summer Kickoff for a full week of flying, training, socializing, and relaxing with our amazing Maverick Division before they head off to camp. Whether you’re flying or just hanging out, it’s always a good time when the Mavericks are around.

Nutting Family Heads to Iowa

The Nuttings are headed north! They’ll be Balloonmeisters at the Ottumwa Balloon Event in Iowa. Big congratulations and good luck to Hunter, who will be going for his check ride, and to our student Keirn, who’s also stepping up for his next big milestone. We’re cheering you both on—watch this space for updates!

— We’ve got more events, more flying, and more fun coming up. Stay tuned for June’s calendar, and as always, keep sharing your photos, stories, and passion for the sky.

🚀 Maverick Division Update

We’re excited to share some recent developments from the Maverick Division!

Balloon Repair & Upgrade

One of our balloons is currently back at the factory for a full panel replacement. While an initial repair was completed, we felt it didn’t meet our standards and decided to go the extra mile to ensure this balloon is in top condition before it finds its new home. We’re committed to quality, and this one will be as good as new.

🎁 Generous Donation from Chuck Norton

A heartfelt thank-you to ballooning legend Chuck Norton, who has officially retired from ballooning. In a generous gesture, Chuck donated several high-quality items to our program, including a trailer. All of these contributions have been received, and we’re currently inspecting and cleaning everything to prepare for our next big project.

🔍 New Systems Secured

Thanks to the sharp eye of Chad Allen, we’ve acquired not one, but two balloon systems! One system is brand-new with zero hours, and the other has just 88 hours on it. Both are tagged and ready to enter the Maverick pipeline. These systems will go through our complete prep process, ensuring they’re full turnkey setups—trailers, fans, gloves, ropes, tanks, and more.

🌟 What’s Next?

The Maverick Young Adults are always on the lookout for great finds, and their reach continues to grow. We’re all eagerly anticipating the next giveaway, and with everything coming together, it won’t be long before we launch another balloon dream.

See you at the next launch
