The Ranch Waggoner Award

We would like to take a moment to recognize Fred and Jan for their exceptional spirit of adventure. This remarkable couple has demonstrated to the Balloon community just how special they truly are. From the moment we met Fred and Jan as volunteer crew members in Foley, Alabama, we knew we had found our people. Not only can they expertly crew a balloon, but they also embrace the wild shenanigans that come with it. Always ready for an adventure, their coast-to-coast journeys—whether in an RV or on a motorcycle—prove that you’re never too old to explore and enjoy life.

It has been our greatest pleasure to have these two as extended family within our ballooning community. Their adventures don’t stop there; they’ve traveled out west to balloon with Mike and Tamie, contributed as part of Eric Brown's crew, and supported Patrick Smith and Mike Goodman. Despite facing challenges over the past few years, their unwavering spirit has never faltered. They’ve shown that life is what you make of it, with their summer adventures surpassing what many dream to experience in a lifetime. Fred and Jan have set a shining example for their children, grandchildren, and everyone they've adopted as family along the way.

In honor of their inspiring dedication and sense of adventure, Aviation Ranch is proud to establish the Ranch Waggoner Crew Award. This award celebrates the bonds that unite our community, the dedication it takes to live a full and loving life, and the spirit of adventure that Fred and Jan embody. We are honored to name this award after them, knowing that their example will continue to inspire others to seek the same fulfillment in ballooning that they have demonstrated.
