For those of you who fly an Aerostar system I have a little saying that I used to tell my crew to remember when removing the burners.

Let me back up a little bit.  I had to replace several of the nipples on the burners because the crew would over tighten them and turn the fitting on the burner. Then when they turned them back the threads would start to leak.  I would tell them over and over that it only takes two fingers to loosen them.  The issue was that they would go the wrong way when they were trying to take them apart and end up over tightening them.

As a matter of habit I would never let the crew hook up the burners.  For several reasons but the primary one was to leak check the system before flight.  The second reason was that if you very gently snug the hose fitting they will never leak.  If you tighten them "Hard" then every time from then on you would have to tighten them the same way and over time the "Olive" (the fitting at the end of the nipple) would begin to flatten out and eventually had to be replaced.  When they are new you can hand tighten them (without an open end wrench) and they will not leak.  

So I came up with this saying that I would tell the crew over and over.  I would say. "You know if it were left up to me you know it would be down right"

Did you catch that???  Left up, Down Right!  At first they would nod their head and not fully catch or realize what I had said.  So I would repeat it slowly.  "You know if it were "LEFT UP" to me you know it would be "DOWN RIGHT".  (Done Right)...

I never had an issue after that.
